Professor Jacqui D’Warte

This workshop draws from Jacqui’s recent research in Sydney primary and secondary classrooms where teachers and students become co-researchers in exploring students’ language and literacy experiences inside and outside of school. Jacqui will demonstrate how to design effective teaching and learning activities that acknowledge student knowledges and skills, and how this knowledge can be applied to assessing, planning and structuring authentic and engaging learning sequences and units of work that promote outcomes across the curriculum.

Dr Jacqueline D’warte is an Adjunct Associate Professor in the School of Education at Western Sydney University (WSU) and a Researcher in the WSU Equity, Social Justice and Inclusion Research Group. She has been a primary and EAL/D teacher in Australia and the United Kingdom and an academic and teacher educator in Australia and the United States of America. Her research focuses on language, identity, and learning, and how these influence classroom practice and educational equity in culturally and linguistically diverse settings.
