Nouns – Do you Know What They Are?

Join Gavin Mackinney as he explores the grammar of nouns and noun groups. Learn about the types of nouns and noun groups, including noun phrases, noun clauses and nominalisation, how to identify noun groups in text analysis, problems that students learners from different L1 backgrounds have with nouns & noun groups, and how to teach nouns and noun groups at different English levels from beginners to advanced.
This workshop is suitable for teachers at all school and adult levels.

Gavin started teaching in the Adult Migrant English Program in 1990 in Brisbane. After graduating from Griffith University with a BSc (Environmental Studies) and having become interested in teaching adult ESL, he did a Dip. Ed. at UQ in Secondary Geography and Social Science teaching.

Gavin has taught in the AMEP, ELICOS and SEE programs at TAFE Southbank for the last three decades. He has taught all levels including adult literacy and numeracy to native speakers, work experience classes, youth classes and English for Further Studies courses. Gavin also teaches guitar and plays a variety of instruments in bands in his spare time.
